Scuffed Edge
FollowAt Scuffed Edge, we want to make our customers feel beautiful and empowered. The women who have shopped with me over the past 3 years all have one thing in common. We are extremely negative about ourselves. If I had a quarter for every time I heard “My arms are too flabby” or “I could never wear that top because of my mom belly”, I would be a very wealthy lady.
My best memories of growing up were sitting in the floor in the doorway of the bathroom and watching my mom getting ready for her day. I remember asking her what every piece of makeup was for that she was using. I remember the smell of her hairspray, Tresemme for all of those that are curious. I remember my dad getting mad at her because she seemed to get more hairspray on the door than she did her hair. Lol. But, I also remember my mom talking negatively about her body. I remember sitting there and hearing my mom say all these ugly things about herself and I felt bad because no matter how many times I told her, she could never see herself the way I see her. She was my role model – strong and beautiful. She could just never see it and still to this day I have to get on to her. Lol.
Now, don’t get me wrong ladies I have those thoughts too. However, anytime I think one of those ugly thoughts about myself I IMMEDIATELY say something positive. I have tried to retrain the way I think, and I am going to pass that on to you beautiful women. When you are in here shopping with me, I want you to know that you are BEAUTIFUL. If I hear you say something negative, I’ll make you say something encouraging. ;).
The best thing about owning this shop and the thing that I thank God for every day is the relationships I have built over the years. I have had the opportunity to meet amazing women who have felt safe enough to share their stories with me. Those that going through nasty divorces, bad jobs, family health issues, depression, new jobs, marriages, celebrations, etc. I have had the privilege to be able to cry and laugh with them. For ten minutes, I was their rock. I was their friend. I was able to let them know that they are loved and that they are beautiful.
If no one else tells you today, let me be the one to say it. I love you. You are beautiful. God has amazing plans for your life. You are strong and you will succeed because you are a Bad Ass.
I know this won’t start revolutions in the boutique industry, but hopefully it’ll make a small impact on someone’s life. Leave the negativity at the door and let us help you find something that will make you feel like the amazing woman you are. Embrace your flaws, adjust your crown, hold your heard high and realized that we are all perfectly imperfect. We are all #BeautifullyScuffed.
